Hello everyone!

Quick question regarding flow for a 72"x24"x24" SPS dominant aquarium. I currently have 4 MP40s running (two on each end of the tank). I am thinking about adding 2 gyres for increased flow near the surface and over the top of the corals. Do you think this is overkill?

Hello everyone!

Quick question regarding flow for a 72"x27"x35" SPS dominant aquarium. I currently have 4 MP40s running (two on each end of the tank). I am thinking about adding 2 gyres for increased flow near the surface and over the top of the corals. Do you think this is overkill?
Its probably still going to be lacking imo. I run 4 mp40s nearly maxed out on a 4' 120gallon.

Not at all. I have a 72" X 24" X 24" and run two large Gyres, two Nero 5's, and two Nero 7's. I placed my Gyres on opposite sides and the Nero's on the back wall. Great flow. Is the 35" in you tank front to back or height?

Thank you for the input. It is 24" height, not sure why I posted 35" initially.

I don't think it will be too much. IMLE I don't think you can give most SPS too much flow as long as its random and not blowing directly on the coral.
I have a 36x22x22" SPS tank with two MP40s, two Nero 5s, a jebao MP40 knock off and two Tunze orca 6075s all cracked up pretty high.

Great size tank and you definitely can use more flow with that footprint. Being 6' long and 3' wide is a lot of area. Multiple pumps work best to be able to hit most areas. I think a couple gyres would be a great addition as it moves a lot of water for a good distance and would complemented with your MP40's. Depending on your rock work, placement of pumps is key. You will need to play around with it to get flow everywhere.

I run 2 sea sweeps with Tunze 6255's in my 60×30×21.
Its all the flow the system will ever need.
I went this direction after running 6 powerheads in my old 120.
The new Tunze ORCA is worth a look. 2 6105 Orcas is all you would need.

Sweet setup. I do love that you were able to reduce powerheads with the sweeps. Visually nice with less equipment and maintenance.

Here's a video I did last week which does a pretty good job of showing the flow in my tank. There is chaotic movement top to bottom for me and the corals are happy. This is a young tank just over 5 months old so I will see how it does when the corals actually grow up (hopefully).
