Fluval spec 60

Hello everyone

I recently got a fluval spec 60 as though it would be a good starting point to get into the hobby as I’m totally new to this!

I did have some trouble with the cycle but with some advice on here I got it sorted!

I removed the original sponge filter and replaced it with a D-flow media basket

top - piece of foam cut from the original filter
Middle - original carbon bag
Bottom- fluval bio-max in a filter bag

if anyone has any suggestions on a different media I could run that would be appreciated

after the tank cycled I added 2 small clown fish
They look tiny

a week later I added 2 blue leg hermits

you could see clean tracks in the sand where they had been cleaning

I went yesterday to get 2 more red leg hermits to help with cleaning and ended up with 2 coral frags, I didn’t intend on getting coral just yet but I’ve been testing everyday and my levels have been spot on!

they are a lot bigger than the blue leg

I got a green star polyps, I didn’t know when I got it they can spread pretty aggressively so I’m gonna move it off the rock on to a frag tile so it can be removed for trimming

I also got a zoa frag

after getting them I can now see how it’s addictive, I want more already makes the tank look so much better!

That’s the tank all up to date I will update as I go

So I can’t keep away from buying coral!

I picked these 2 up today

another zoa

and this fuzzy mushroom

gonna try and not get anymore for a while but who knows!

looking to get another fish but unsure what to get?

also want to pick up a cleaner shrimp

I picked up another rock today to put the green star polyps

(It’s now open it was mad that I moved it)

shame it doesn’t match the other rock but hopefully it will get covered in coral!

I also put some new shells in for the hermits but I seem to be missing one of the blue legs.
I even moved the new coral just to make sure I hadn’t trapped him!

I picked up another zoa frag!

I also got a clip on lens to use on my phone camera to try and picture the coral with the blue light on, they look amazing!

off to a great start! Love the new fluval tank wonder what is the difference other than size from the evo 13.5 G

Thank you, I’m enjoying it so far even looking at bigger tanks already!

as far as I’m aware the only difference is size.

So I ended up buying another coral!
this time I got a bigger zoa to go on my new smaller rock

I did end up getting more than I thought tho...
After getting it out the bag I noticed what looked like a clam in with the coral!
Thought it might just be an old shell but it’s definitely alive!

I was unsure at first weather I wanted to keep it but it’s pretty cool I suppose, the shop I got it from assure me it’s safe.

Think I’m going to pick up a cleaner shrimp in the next couple of days as they are pretty cool!

So I ended up getting a cleaner shrimp and a peppermint shrimp

they seem to be doing well so far and the fish ain’t bothered by them

I’ve been looking at getting a bigger tank already so I can stock more fish as I’m probably near the limit of this one!

would probably have to be custom to fit on the unit I modified for the current tank, do you have to run a sump on bigger tanks?

Got another coral

Alveopora

The hermit crabs keep knocking the coral off the rocks! I don’t want to glue them as I like the option to move around when I add new ones

Changed my scape up slightly, the left hand side of the tank looked a bit empty so picked up another rock today.
I did use some putty to hold it as it rocks slightly but not sure it’s gonna hold.
