And while we are taking this thread more seriously than I intended - I know a thing or two about this victim mentality.

I lived MANY years of my life always feeling victimized by everything. There are creators (create good life for themselves and the silver lining) and victims (people that always blame and rarley accept responsibility).

It did not do any good for me to use my terrible past and childhood to justify being lazy, make stupid decisions, and not try to better myself.

Victim mentality is a huge plague in society, and it's growing. Real sad and I've been there.

I think people should always try to do their best, whatever level that is. If I detect someone is not trying their best to communicate effectively then I typically don't put much stock in what they have to say, and I'll generally skip over their comments. It might not be important to others whether I read their post or not, that's their call. I will say it's possible this concept never occurred before to someone who is reading this thread and they may try a little harder as a result of the discussion. What's wrong with that?

Well said. Nothing here is meant to belittle anyone, nor is it calling anybody in particular out... It is merely a response to the OP's topic. Personally, I have what has been described as "relatively severe Attention Deficit Disorder with prominent Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as an obvious byproduct." So perhaps my thoughts on this topic are unique. However, I have never made a comment on what I would consider poor grammar. These are just some of my feelings that were given the green light to express when openly asked - that's all this is, nothing more. I completely get being in forums and letting grammatical norms go to the wayside in exchange for ease of communication.

I am Polish and I have lived here for 19 years, and learning English is very difficult. I do my best and if that's not good, I am doing the best I can, everyone is different and no one is perfect. Try learning a different language with no help and see how you do. I work with people who have lived here their entire life and they can`t read or write. I don`t want to offend anyone but sometimes people are doing their best:confused:

I think most people realize the difficulty that is inherent to people with English as a second language. I, for one, am someone who absolutely does, as I brokenly speak (or more accurately, read and write), three other languages.
Penso che quello che la gente qui si lamentano sono le persone che sono stati educati fin dalla nascita con l'inglese come lingua madre.

I am positively sure I jacked that sentence up trying to write it in Italian, but it is what it is. That being said, you did a fantastic job in your post above, and I think everyone here has, (from what I have witnessed) been extremely helpful and accommodating to those with English as a secondary language.

Who are we to judge. There can be many factors as to why some peoples spelling is not "perfect". I think most people on here will figure it out with no problem.

I own a forum. At first, all of that drove me nuts! I discussed this with a couple of offenders. One of them was a moderator. I found out, from professional experience, that he has dyslexia.

I still wrinkle my nose when I see incorrect spelling and grammar, but I let it go. If those people knew how to spell correctly or use proper grammar, they would.
My forum has a spectrum of members: from construction workers to doctors. I'm "tankful"([emoji12]) that they are involved and let it be.
You can't take them back to school.

I am a college graduate with a degree in nursing and an enthusiastic reader and writer, receiving top grades in my class.

When I write or read I do not even see my mistakes despite endless reviews and proof reading.

If an individual is obviously trying to the best of their abilities to communicate in the written language then that is all I can ask for.

It no longer embarrasses me when my mistakes are pointed out, just know that I had to review my writing dozens of times before hitting Post Reply. For some grammar and spelling accurately are everyday challenges that the majority take for granted.

I finish my MBA in August and I'm not perfect either. It astonishes me how some of my peers write in graduate level work (evident in group work).

It can be anyone! :)

When I post, I find myself proof reading several times before posting. I want all the words spelled correctly, and all the commas, and periods in their proper place. I want the sentences to be understandable, and to be to the point, and concise as possible. I have read a few posts that were completely up for grabs as to what was being said. I don't condemn anyone for that, but I can't respond to what I am not able to decipher.

My neighbor left me a note, and a sack of cat food at my door this morning. I cannot read part of his message. It's the part about how long he will be gone. I could be feeding his cat for who knows how long. It really would have been considerate if he had written plainly when he was to be back! My motivation for attempting to write plainly is that I want to show respect for others, and also for our language. But I don't demand that same respect in return! I do, however, recommend it!

I responded earlier commenting that as long as it's understood, then it's fine. However, I opened a post today that was so irritating I was out of there.......no capital letters, no punctuation........Just run on words of trying to figure out what was being said. I can take grammar errors and mis-spelling/mis-use of words, but no punctuation is my pet peeve.....where's the back button.
