I asked the powers that be to add a Frag tank section. They where kind enough to create it. What better way to kick it off by having a Frag tank show off thread.

Heck, create a Frag tank build thread if you want. :)

No I don’t have one yet, but I would like one some day.

I’ve been on a journey of Frag systems for the past 2 years. Been jumping from system to system.

Here is some photos of my 40B frag system. Later I will post some pics of my winter project that is currently cycling. Included 1 photo as a sneak peak.

Wow

Super Ugly I know. Constructed from 4x26 gallon concrete mixing tables. 2x65 gallon tubs on bottom. 300lbs liverock. Slightly used protien Skimmer. 2 x Slightly used reef radiance 120 watt black boxes.
It has allowed me to achieve 24 sq ft of frag space up top.
Working on a display tank I can actually show people lol.

My used to be a refugium but my chaeto wouldn’t ever grow so now it’s a frag tank. The lower tank is my display, the upper is basically a giant hob filter. Both 40b

I just got a new light for it yesterday a 24” photon v2+. I wanted a 16” but they were all out of stock and it was just a few bucks more. I don’t really have much in there yet. Nothing photo worthy anyway.

Very Impressive use of material!

Also nice to see another blackbox user as well. I run Viparspectras with Aquatic Life T5 Hybrid System.

Thank you. All in all I think I spent about $900 on the build. Everything except for the tuff stuff tables and reservoirs on the bottom are slightly used including chiller.
And yessir. My tables are shallow @ about 7 inches water covering frags I dont think I need much more lamp. Although I'm looking at a 90 gallon that I (my wife) wants to set up and use as display tank. So I'm looking into some hydras for that one.

How are these systems connected ? I'm looking to do something similar.

I have a small overflow box in the display, there is a mj900 in there. It pumps water up into the top tank into the filter sock. Top tank I drilled the side and installed a bulkhead and a pipe for a gravity return.

Really takes some effort and tuning to get it so it won’t overflow if you lose power.

Mine is the miniest of frag systems lol.

It came about as I needed somewhere to put my UV sterilizer. So I decided to build a cabinet next to my main display to house the UV. Then I thought, why not just make an electrical cabinet there? After which I thought, if there is going to be power and water being fed to this spot why not incorporate a frag tank. So that's how a frag tank came to be in this spot

Here it sits in the alcove next to my system.

It's been one of the most useful additions to my system.
