Fragging Wall hammer - attempt to save

oh man sorry for your loss.
I think this is one reason not to frag these guys. I get it you really didnt have a choice it probably would have gone the same way if you didnt do it. When you frag these you really have no choice but to cut tissue. Even if you have a band saw with a clean new blade you are inviting infection. I fragged a rhizo for the same reason years ago. I got it from an lfs and half of it was dead or dying. I fragged it with aa band saw directly through the mouth and immediately iodine dipped it. Fortunately for me it recovered , took a long time. Not sure if its the fact its a nps coral and doesnt need light so no algae growth that helped or not ( I think that was a big part).

Yea I believe I slowed the infection but even with infected tissue removed it still spread. Even spread to the half that was an independent colony and not connected to anything damaged

Over the years, Euphyllia have proven to be a very frustrating coral. Parameters are perfect everything looking great and out of the blue a head or more up and dies with no explanation. Just one of those things. While I still keep Euphyllia, I won’t buy any of the grails because they can be so finicky.

I was nervous about my grail too, and I paid what I consider a lot to get a healthy one. I grew mine out over the last year from one head to 5 heads

Now I’m growing out a banana torch hoping it has the same success

Realized I never updated this thread. The reasons the wall hammer initially became receded leading to sickness…was my filefish. He started getting a taste for euphyllia.

After I made the two good frags, one died suddenly after about a week. Then the other started dying and I caught the filefish eating it. He also started eating acans and I saw him start nipping torch. He is no longer in the system and no further corals were injured
