Frameless Euro-Style Stand Possible?

Has anyone built, or can it even be done, a euro-style frameless plywood stand? So there would only be bracing on 3 of 4 vertical sides. I would like to build one for my 40 Breeder, but I haven't found any examples of this style. It would be built out of only 3/4 ply. I just like the style and am curious if it's possible. Can't imagine how the front wouldn't sag under load.

If you're trying to get that 'open' look, you might look into something other than wood. My stand is 1.5" 11 gauge square tube steel, welded and powder coated. It's about as 'wide open' as you're going to get. Having a local fab shop weld it up for me was not one of the more major cost factors of building my new system. Not having to worry about my stand, well, one less thing, you know?

I think for a 40 breeder, you'll be fine with just 3/4" plywood construction. Use construction adhesive and Kreg Jig pocket crews. If you take a look a Red Sea Reefer 250 stand (similar footprint)... it's essentially the same thing, 3 unframed vertical walls using epoxy coated MDF. Using plywood would definitely be stronger.

I plan on using 3/4" Baltic birch plywood with pocket screws for my Deep Blue 57 rimless. It has the exact same base dimensions as your 40 breeder at 36x18,

The Reefer was kind of what got me thinking about this design, I really like how their stands look. Well I have a couple sheets of 3/4 in the garage so maybe I will give it a go. It will still be supported somewhat horizontally on the front, just not sure if it's enough.

My stand is pretty much a plywood box. The front 2 pieces are doubled up 2 x 3/4" plywood. It will also hold a leak. The front door is one-piece and held in place by a wood ledge rest and magnets. This isn't exactly what your looking for, but close. I'm using a 25.5" x 15.5" sump.
