I noticed what appeared to be PMD on one of my small maxima two days ago which was resulting in the clam barely opening.
Following a very thorough guide on the forum I gave the clam a dip in ph/temp matched RODI for 15 minutes.
Huge difference today!
Clam is open & mantle fully extended.
This got me thinking, is FWD good protocol before placing any new clams into the display system or an unnecessary stress to the animal?

My new clams get a 30 minute dip before they go into the tank. I want to keep the bad microbes out of the tank and protect the other ones from disease

Seems prudent.
I've seen a few posts from people with beautiful collections that were wiped out by the addition of a bad egg.
I'm really surprised by the dramatic difference this dip made

The concern is obviously the others are now vulnerable so I shall monitor closely.

I'm not sure 15 minutes was enough? FW dips only treat PMD as far as we know and 30 minutes is the recommended time. I'm currently working on a protocol for new clams (and ailing clams that are exhibiting different symptoms, which are not PMD related) using oxolinic acid as a treatment for any unknown pathogens. If the clam is healthy, then a FW dip should be okay, but this could stress out an otherwise healthy clam that didn't need it. New clams should go to a QT/observation tank for a week or two before adding to your display.
