Sunday I dosed my newly setup 170 total volume tank with Fritz TurboStart 900 and two hours later added NitroCycle, which is a new inorganic nitrogen source by @AlgaeBarn.

There is little to no information about NitroCycle, so I figured I’d post my results here so anyone looking to use these products together would have some data.

My tank has a 130 gallon display and 40 gallon sump. In it are 80 lbs of dry base rock, 60 lbs of rinsed and cloudless CaribSea Hawaiian Black “Live” Sand, 1 Marine Pure plate, and 4 Eshopps BioLux blocks. I’m using regular Instant Ocean for the cycle mixed to 1.026 and the tank is 77-78 degrees. No filter socks or skimmer being run during the cycle.

I’ll update this thread daily throughout my cycle. Here are my test results from yesterday and today:

Very interested in this! How much of the nitrocycle did you add? What test kits are you using?

Today’s results:
8/29/19 @ 10:45am
ph - 8.0
Ammonia - 0.25 ppm
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
Nitrate - 5.0-10.0 ppm

Ammonia is dropping daily. Nitrites and Nitrates are staying steady, along with my pH. I also received a few fish and inverts that are in QT awaiting my new tank.

Thank you for posting your results!!! Where did you buy the Fritz TurboStart 900? I'm thinking about buying some for a tank I'm setting up next week.

Appears to be a slight changes in Ammonia and Nitrite. Nothing good happens fast in this hobby, but I was given a Purple Tang yesterday from a friend’s tank that had a disaster and I feel bad this guy has to ride out my cycle with me as he hangs in my nano.

Today’s results:
9/2/19 @ 5:45pm
ph - 8.0
Ammonia - 0-0.25 ppm
Nitrite - 2.0-5.0 ppm
Nitrate - 0 ppm

Interested in why you waited 2 hours to add the nitrocycle. I have a 220 that I’m getting ready to cycle.

No reason really. I figured I'd let the Fritz get mixed in the system well since there were some smaller chunks that came out of the bottle. (If I remember correctly, I left my house for something too)

So... I went through 2 bottles of the Turbo Start and 200 ML of the Nitrocycle today. I will begin monitoring my numbers tomorrow. Did you immediately start with Pods after the cycle? Also...did you have lights on or off during the cycle period?

Yes, I added pods from 4 sources after the cycle was complete. AlgaeBarn, Mike’s, Reef Nutrition, and chaeto from a local Reefer that was crawling with pods.

Lighting is up to you. Some folks recommend leaving it off and others recommend using it to start the tank going through its ugly phase. I started with 80% base rock and didn’t move the live rock I had in my nano for years until after the cycle was done. After about 4 days of darkness I switched my lights on for about 6 hours a day. How much of a difference it made, I don’t know, but I couldn’t take looking at a dark tank any longer.

Ok...so I am also using Instant Ocean salt mix and API test kits. Here are my results after ~24 hours:
Salinity: 1.025
ph: 8.3
Ammonia: 4.0
Nitrite: 5.0
Nitrate: 20

This is for a 220 gallon + 40 gallon sump + ~150 lbs dry rock + 120 lbs live sand = +~210 gallons of total volume
