Frog fish Reef safe?

I just seen some pics of some different types of frog fish and...... I'm hooked they're amazing. My only concern is will it try to eat my fishes( two ocellaris, a couple of damsels, cardinal, fire shrimp, snails and hermits)

Yes it will eat your live stock. Usually there the only fish in the tank or housed with large fish that can’t be eatin by them

Really that just means it's time for another build ;) luckily most of them don't need massive tanks so you can get a nice 20-30 Gallon and set up a species only tank for it. :p

What size tank is it, the warty would be comfortable in a 20g, but the striated or painted would be better suited for a 30g.

20 gal I was planning on either getting the warty or red assorted with white "spikes"

Check out inappropriate reefer on YouTube. He had one that was very personable but suddenly died after having it a year. Was eating well, no symptoms - just found it dead one morning in the tank. He was feeding it a varied diet of live & frozen foods. I’ve also have read that they do not live more than a year or so in captivity for some unknown reason.

@lion king can you elaborate on why this might be?

Is it mostly due to feeding frozen and/or overfeeding?

I've been able to keep my anglers alive for just under 3 years. 1st mistake is to "train your angler to dead food", even if successful they will stop taking it in just a few months at best, and never to my knowledge go back to eating at all. So a live diet must not only provide something nutritional, but I suspect also as enrichment to their captive life, they need to hunt. Overfeeding I would suspect the 2nd mistake, I;ve found a good feeding no ore than once a week to 10 days to be best. And 3rd, they are more sensitive to water quality that people may think, and because they are somewhat sedentary some people get bored and their husbandry begins to wain.

What did you feed them? It seems like ghost shrimp and damsel are two of the most readily available source. I would be happy if I can keep 1 for 2-3 yrs.

Oh I forgot, I suspect disease or parasites to be the 4th thing that shortens their life. If you feed anything saltwater they must be qt'd and the fish treated for parasites before feeding, so I only feed my predators ghosties, guppies, and mollies. Most people that bash fresh water food likely have never kept any of these predators alive for any length of time, much less years. Ghosties are my staple, I have a small tank where they are being gut loaded and vitamin enhanced. I have a lfs where I can get various sized mollies for cheap, breeding your own mollies is also an easy project. Guppies are also a good food for the small sized angler, I'll even get the fancy ones when on sale.
