Apparently I've spent the last week walking around on a partially torn Achilles tendon. The Dr has now ordered me to put absolutely no weight on it while she figures out if rest, surgery and/or rehab are the best option. MRI comes Monday.

I have to rely on the better half for all upkeep tasks on the reef till I can put weight on it. I'm a bit of a control freak..

And I'm freaking out!

Hi,

sorry to hear that. Hope for the best diag and quick recovery for you.

Well a bit different here because mine was known before going into it but I'm 11 days post op total hip replacement. I am 6 to 8 weeks out before I can put full weight on my leg and that isn't even talking about a list of other restrictions.

Like you I have my wife taking care of day to day things along with my children. They are all chipping in to help. Refill top off water, feed sheets of nori, frozen cubes, etc. While my wife supports me and the hobby 100% she isn't a aquarium person so things take a bit more time. So far everyone in the tank is doing great.

Knowing I'm out for a while, a long while, I figured it is a good time to see how it runs without me tinkering with it. In parallel it will give me some time to plan and order a water storage and mixing station and a few other small things that I can work on once I am back on my feet. And one more thing since I have the other hip to be done in 18 or so months I'll be planning a upgrade :)

I'm finding a 30" tall aquarium with a 30" tall stand is a bit much with something who has hip issues. So looking to see what I can change in the future should the upgrade fairy visit me.

Fully understand your situation - make the best of it and hang in there!!!!! Oh, and hope you are feeling better!!!!!

Dang. That’s a tough one. Sorry to hear. I’ve had knee issues for nearly 20 years. I’ve had 3 knee surgeries. My best advice is to listen to your docs when they say to rest it, and start planning to rehab the injury when they say you’re ready. Rehab is where the healing really begins and is the preventative from ending back up where you were to begin with.

It’s no fun when you have to rely on someone to take care of what used to be easy everyday tasks. Be patient. You don’t want to drag it out longer than it needs to be and have to have that extra help further down the road.

Take your pain killers. Plenty of water.
Alternate ice pack, then heat pack, then ice pack then heat pack and so forth. Icy hot extra strength for temporary comfort

Thanks all for the support!

The frustrating part is I really didn't think it was this bad. Then even my boss told me to go to the Dr...

My new 90 gallon reef is setup but I wasn't done tinkering and testing. I've got a marine betta in QT and still have stuff to do. Totally don't have the to be hurt!
