Let's look into the future of reef-keeping. Progress is driven by ingenuity and necessity. What would be your ideal break through in reef-keeping technology? No limits on your imagination....

A water purification system that can produce water equal to the water pressure rate, purifies to 0 TDS while removing chemicals and other non desirable elements, with no waste and incredibly long lasting filter media. No more waiting for the drip of your RO/DI machine, replacing expensive filter media, and eliminating the need for a large RO/DI reservoir.

Filtration system that actively removes nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, and phosphates to the extent that it completely eliminates the need for water changes done for nutrient exportation. Combine this with the previously mentioned dosing/monitoring system and you should never have to do a routine water change ever again.

A compact self contained feeding mechanism that stores, thaws, and feeds frozen foods to the tank. Of course it can be connected to a tank controller.

Algae scrubber

Meh. The algae scrubber has to be huge to really keep nutrient levels down. Plus it is messy and the upkeep is higher than I would like. I want something less labor intensive and far more efficient. As long as I am dreaming, let's dream big.

Not at all. Downflow, illuminated two sides. Its relative of course. Huge tank, huge skimmer, huge pump, huge sump.

Plus it is messy and the upkeep is higher than I would like.

Not messy at all??. I spend 5 minutes twice a week scraping of the algae from the screens.

more efficient than zero nitrate & zero phosphate?

keep dreaming :D

I admit the algae scrubber does a good job. But you still have to clean it twice a week, replace bulbs, and it is bulky! I want flying cars, teleportation, and compact labor free nutrient control!

A complete stop to wild collection and all fish and corals being aquacultured. And a device that converts nitrates into nitrogen gas which can be piped outside.

Their getting there

You mean denitrification?
Yeah, a machine to automate the denitrification process to allow precise nutrient level control.

Yeah, the aquaculture of marine ornamental fish has come an amazingly long way, especially in the past few years. I bet within the next 10 years, we won't be doing much wild collection at all except for new strains.

.
DyMiCo ; dynamic mineral control

Its like a reverse flow undergravel filter (reaction chamber) with an inserted orp probe & co2 injection to maintain an anoxic zone in the sand bed for denitrification. Organic carbon is also injected into the reaction chamber to promote denitrifying bacteria. All this, & a slow flow /intermittent flow pump is computer controlled.

I'd like to see an advancement in battling all the marine parasites. Like something that could be easily implemented at the lfs and in the home.

It still seems crazy to me that that I (correctly) assume any new fish I buy is sick.
