Hello, a while I go I got this coral. The vendor wasn’t sure of the identity but guessed galaxea. At the beginning it wasn’t doing too great because my anemone decided to plant itself right above it. It seems during this process the coral may have “moved.” I’m not sure how exactly, but it’s moved about an inch to the left in the last couple of months. After my anemone split and moved to another spot, the coral really took off in growth. But now I just checked it and it seems to have split in two. In the week it seemed to be elongating itself, possibly preparing for this? What could this be? Do they normally do this?

That is a (ricordea?) mushroom coral (corallimorpharia) which is a soft coral. Similar to anemones, mushrooms will split to reproduce, the can also "walk" similar to BTA's

You mean corallimoporpharia? I couldn’t find a corallimporpha when I looked it up.

Regardless, I really don’t think so. The picture I sent is very poor quality. It’s got decently long polyps, like the coral in this post:

I will send better pictures tomorrow when it’s opened up again.

I got a few galaxeas and this doesn't look like one. Galaxea has little flowerpot like skeletons and don't split. Agree with previous answer it's some kind of morph.

Agreed. Doesn’t look like Galaxea but a mushroom of some sort. My guess is either Ricordea Yuma or a type of hairy mushroom

Definitely not a galaxea, definitely a mushroom of some kind.

EDIT: probably something like this rhodactis (not my picture)

That’s it! I was very doubtful before but it looks exactly like this first picture.

Thanks for clearing it up everyone!
