Shouldn’t there be a gasket or something to force water through a sediment filter instead of running down it and under?

This phenomenon is known as “channeling”!

It’s a common issue, some methods of getting around it are:

— gaskets

—firmer mechanical media (usually coarse sponge material) friction fit into place

— cascading water through a bag or sheet of filter media

I am aware,

Does everyones rodi unit have a gasket? Ive never seen one for sediment filer on the brs units.

Ah! For RODIs specifically!

Typically, compression fit is sufficient for sediment filtration, though I do see your point… there is a chance for water to get minimal mechanical filtration opportunity if it passes through the sediment filter’s top or bottom face, around the plastic ridges that clamp it in position…

I’d assume this works primarily because the flow rate through what is essentially many square feet of filter surface area is so low that water doesn’t have a preference towards any one particular section of the sediment filter, especially once an initial layer of sediment seals any significant channeling paths!
