Self Priming Pump to Run Externally with a Reactor

I am setting up a BRS Canister with a sediment filter in an attempt to remove dinos from my tank at night. Both the canister and pump are sitting on a platform above my tank. The problem I am having is that the Sicce pump is not self priming. So it is difficult to get it running. So, I am looking for a self priming pump that I can run externally with this canister filter. Any suggestions?


I’ve done a bit more research and it sounds like what I am trying to do might not be possible. Here is a picture. Any suggestions?

Kind of a pain but I was able to submerge the pump and get it started.

Did your pump come with suction cups? Maybe just temporarily put the pump in the tank with them until you’re done getting rid of the dinos? I’m not sure if any smaller pump can overcome gravity like you’re asking for?
