I’m thinking about a nano/pico to start out with to test if I’m ready for the vigors of a larger tank.
I’ve read that a nano could be very successful if you do complete water changes weekly with a closed top, heater and a small water circulation pump, par38 and located in a room with a/c. Any thoughts on this setup and maintenance strategy?

Sure! will your Nano be an AIO tank? I think you're right on with the water changes, but for stability it's possible you might end up either manually or automatically dosing something like 2 part. I ask about the AIO because with that, you can minimize some of the maintenance by adding media, and maybe a skimmer, etc. But yea, looks like you're there!

It will be a 5g . I was not thinking about AIO.
I was hoping the weekly complete water change would eliminate the need for additives and any additional equipment other than something for water circulation.
Thanks for the advice. Definitely will keep it in mind.
