It's considered cruel to put fish in a fish bowl cause there isn't alot of space swimming and water will fowl quick cause of poo. This idea is cool. It's a succulent garden.

clown gobies don't really swim lol they find their favorite spot to perch (normally on your favorite coral) then they just chill.

It just isn't right, but a bowl is better than the little cup they keep the betta fish in at the store. They 2.5 gallon tanks at petsmart, that would be better.

I agree, I hate seeing them, I have to turn my head whenever I see them!!

Especially at Walmart. At the petsmart in town it's seems they keep them a little cleaner but they always look so depressed in those little cups.

I just saw this thing called ecospheres. It's a completely enclosed sphere that contains water, shrimp, and algae. It is completely self-sustaining. No water changes, no feedings. Looks really awesome. You can buy it off Amazon.

yeah ive seen those. I would imagine algae being an issue.

It looks so cool though. They have a decent price tag too.

yeah it looks cool and the shrimp would help with the algae but theres no way these would last without a ton of macro and eventually the macro would fill the tank. its a nifty idea, but I just don't see it as plausible for long term.

Well, they say it lays about 2 to 3 years. It wouldn't be forever definitely.

Plus, the lifespan of those small shrimp can't be very long either.

honestly I cant see it lasting 2-3 years. no flow what so ever, no oxygen exchange, nothing to get rid of the nutrients as theres nothing to convert ammonia and no flow to push the nutrients to the macro (what little bit they stick in them). I mean im no biologist but I just cant see it lasting even 6 months.
