GHL Powerbar and large heaters

Sorry but is not going to work here. I know on the Facebook groups things get blamed away from GHL or get hidden but not here.

So an IM helio heater and all the other name brand heaters are at fault and not the GHL pab. 8 amps my guy 8 amps on a socket rated for 15 amps. This never happened to be with an apex on the dedicated heater relay outlets.
Maybe not to you but I DID have that happen on my Neptune system.... Regardless, I'm not going to change your mind and I know first hand that I'm correct, at least in my experiences with this.

Yall are missing the forest for the trees.

I've had this same thing happen with other "powerbars" outside of GHL as well as my previous GHL powerbar. It's a fault in the PLUG and when it goes south the SOCKET is the victim. We always "THINK" it's the socket at fault and the PLUG is the victim but it's the other way around and it's across many brands of heaters. I feel like what we are seeing is inferior components in the HEATERS and/or less than stellar QUALITY CONTROL! All of this has happened, to me, in the last 5 years. Before that, I don't ever recall the PLUG or SOCKET being an issue in any of my tanks.

I had this happen with a very old NEPTUNE system as well as an INKBIRD and a GHL. All were faulty in the PLUG and then the SOCKET was ruined as well.

@Vinny@GHLUSA can you expand upon this some more?
This is correct. If a socket supports 15A or the entire PB supports 15A and the total load does not exceed this limit, it will continue functioning as intended. If the load exceeds the limit or the connected equipment has an issue (less than ideal wire size to save on production costs), then there will be problems. Believe it or not, the logic is rather simple. If this were a true issue on the PB end, we'd be seeing this on other equipment pulling a similar load (i.e. chillers) and that's not happening. There's nothing to hide here. It's not like the PB intentionally melts sockets only when a heater is connected to it, but forgets to do that when another high load device is plugged in. That would be silly.

Yeap perfect answer. The great deflect as usual.

Just because my response doesn’t align with yours doesn’t mean it’s deflecting. I’m sharing a view based on logic and facts as I see them, not to avoid the issue, but to add to the conversation. You don't have to agree with what I said, that’s fine, however dismissing it as ‘deflection’ doesn’t change the facts.

Oh man.

I usually only go 75% of rated current on a circuit but it looks like there was a resistance between the plug and socket for some reason. Also you must have a large tank to need two 800 watt heaters. I assume you are splitting it between 2 heaters and not just using a single heater. I have a 42 gallon tank with a 10 gallon sump and I only have 2 50 watt heaters. Also most house circuits have a 15 amp limit per string of outlets. So since there are several outlets on each string with just one 800 watt heater that use up quite a bit of the 15 amps for several wall outlets.

Deflecting? Seriously?

Contrary to what you believe, this is a DISCUSSION board (aka FORUM) where various points of views, experiences, and variables are posted to ADD TO the conversation. Not everyone is going to agree with you, have your set of experiences, or have the same emotional responses as you. That's just how life and that's definitely part of FORUM LIFE!

The mere matter that others have differing REAL WORLD experiences that happen to starkly contradict your statements is definitely NOT deflecting my friend.

It's nothing personal and in no way should you take offense to these posts. It's just a matter of having different experiences, facts, and beliefs than what you have formulated.

Sincerely,
Allen in NC
