Glass chipped

I was drilling for an overflow and toward the end my drill kicked and the last bit cracked out, think the tank is ruined? I'm leaning toward sending it

Can't tell from the image but gasket side or no? Not gasket side I'd probably try it as is. Gasket side I'd probably put a layer of silicone and lightly snug the bulkhead down and let the silicone cure a little and tighten it up making sure the gasket side does not rotate as your tightening.
Disclaimer: I can be a bit reckless compared to a lot of folks when it comes to taking chances with stuff like this. Or may be I'm just cheap and don't want to spend money if I don't need to :thinking-face:

EDIT : if it's cheap tank (less than $100) I might scrap it.

is a dang near new 120 so probably like $550 or so. Its in the basement and has a floor drain 10 feet from it so I think I'm going to send it. this overflow box double gaskets both the glass sides and the nut is inside the box so I'm just going to silicone the inner one

is a dang near new 120 so probably like $550 or so. Its in the basement and has a floor drain 10 feet from it so I think I'm going to send it. this overflow box double gaskets both the glass sides and the nut is inside the box so I'm just going to silicone the inner one

In a basement close to a drain I'd fill it with tap water and run it for a few days just to make sure. Worst case scenario it leaks. I can't see it bursting or anything catastrophic

definitely. id hate to waste $80 worth of salt on top of a $500+ tank :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I would heavily apply silicone on both sides and also use the rubber gasket on the wet side. once tightened down tool the access silcone to clean it up a bit. I actually always use silicone as its a nice lubricant for tightening down, and its reef safe, and its extra protection from leaking. Just my two cents. :)

yea I was planning on the silicone on the wet side. it goes bulkhead flange(wet)-gasket-glass-gasket-exterior box-nut. the weir box has pvc glued to it that slides into the wet side bulkhead

I’m a little late to the party but a chip and not a crack near the top of the tank. With the cost of replacement I would absolutely use that tank.
