Goni closed for months now

I’ve had this Goni for close to 9 months now and he used to do amazing but because one of my corals was getting large I had to move him and I did my research and put him in what I think is a good spot but I’m not sure because now he’s been closed for 6 months or so and only barely opens at night or may become like a bit fluffy during the day but that’s it, I’ve tried feeding reef roids, frozen food ect ect like everything and it’s has no effect. I’m assuming the food won’t be absorbed into him if he’s closed up right? What would you do here I’ve been keeping all my general levels very stable and good, I know my phosphate are very high but I have phosphate remover bag in there and then I’m going to use chemipure original to help keep the levels down and cleaning my filter socks more often, I also so All for reef every other day about 2 ml. Pleas help me all my other corals are looking good but this dang Goni

A nice few people after suggesting here that macroalgaes could be up taking a lot of manganese? I have a lot of caulerpa in my sump refugium, could this be the source of my problems?
I think the main consensus is to do an ICP test anyways and then reaccess.

I've had a similar experience with Goni, and they come back after like 6 months closed!
I dose heaps of Manganese, and never had it even measurable on an ICP, so I believe its hard to overdose.

There was actually an article recently about the positive benefits on high Manganese and coral tolerance to heat issues.

That'll do it. I have a lot of chaeto in my sump. Macroalgae is notorious for sucking up a lot of trace.

I also have a refuge.
I dose cheatogro for that.
I test iron at home and keep levels detectable. That way i know im dosing enough.

Okay, that sounds good. So you don’t test your manganese per say? Just dose as per instructions? Could you not end up overdosing doing this?

tbh, that spot now looks great. was it moved from low to mid or from high to mid? realistically, it is a small tank and light pars are pretty much not that much of a difference. sure, try moving it back to the old spot for few days and see. if the result is the same, try the manganese.

i'd just dose half of whats recommended for a couple of weeks to see.

I have a 180 full of nothing but Goniopora. I’ve found nightly dosing of Manganese is critical. Looking at your parameters, I would increase your magnesium and manganese and work on slowly lowering your Phosphates. I like keeping my alk a little higher 8.5-9. Best of luck
