I have done a couple of internet searches to answer some questions on R2R this morning mostly looking for pics to add to my posts.

IMHO all the smart is gone from the internet and we are in trouble. Or it's out there but you cant search for it anymore.

With the current search algorithms it seems that you need to know the right question in order to find the right answer. Unfortunately the hardest part can be figuring out the question.

Someone posted a chipped tank. It was entirely on an edge. The tank would be fine if you cleaned the edges of the chip. The sharp edges can cause stress in the glass as well as make it very sharp. You can buy ( or used to be able to) a diamond nail file at the drug store. You can use it to file the sharp edges of the crack which de stresses the glass, it also removes the sharp edges.
I cut glass and use one to clean the edges so they aren't sharp as well. That is how I get pieces to make a sump.
I found how to fix car windshields, distress antiques and seek counseling for stress.
I gave up.

Another person was saying the old rules of thumb are silly. It occured to me I have been very successful using them, but they all go together, Pounds of rock per gallon. Fish per gallon, Size tanks for types of fish.
I learned these 10 years ago from people that were doing it 10 years before me.
Sadly if you don't go by one the rest don't work either.

It is a formulaic way to keep some marine stuff alive. It is a very good way to start off. Once you get some experience you can start to try other methods.

The old adage about the bath water comes to mind. We need to be smart enough to know the rules of thumb and wise enough to know which ones to use or run the risk of learning from our own experience instead of someone else’s.

...oh, congratulations on how to work with distressed, antique glass.

Happy Friday folks! Water changes and a tank transfer for the last round of fish are on the slate. I've managed to put 2 batches of fish through copper treatment now with no losses, I'll take that as a win to start the new year. Coral losses on the other hand...

Morning and happy friday all! Got a spot of good news yesterday, the furnace is fine. Just a plugged tube stopping one of the units from kicking the furnace on. Line is clear and the heat is rollin out!

That’s great! Always good to catch a break every now and then!

Morning everyone! Last day at my current position. Monday I go full time into my new job. Wish me luck! I'm going to need it!

Put that camera down and scratch my ear more.
Louie has been released into the wild twice now. It makes him very happy and he runs around like a little goober with his tail held high. Scares the heck out of me. We have a Bear in the yard.

Good morning and don't worry, it's Sunday.

How do you manage to post something I just saw at my house. Kit did this when I went into Jeanna's room to feed her. Jeanna is at Disney in Florida with some of her long time friends. One of them works there as...
I think it is called a character performer? A person who walks around as Goofy for example. It is a very serious job with a lot of rules.

Good morning! Got the new corals from Tidal Gardens in on Friday...all arrived very healthy (of course, I shattered a chalice moving to new frag but that's what super glue is for). Unfortunately, pre-install water test showed 0 nitrates and .25 phosphates - so tweaking that in now. Testing again today to see how the WC, Phosguard and feeding more with less carbon dosing is doing.

Still and all...lovely day here. Picking up family heirloom cabinet my great great grandfather had made in 1870s today from Mom. She's downsized and the cabinet isn't. :)

It’s funny how cats are cats around the world!
