Good Morning Reefies

we been missing some regulars here. :(
hope all is well with them.

climate change.... cut up the trees and grass lands, fill in the marshes and swamp land (heat dispersers)
build rock, steel and glass buildings. pour black roads (heat retainers) :thinking-face:

i'm no scientist, but i did sleep at a holiday inn last night.

ice storm here over night. high winds currently.
in years past, before i spent all the money on the whole house generator, an ice/wind event was a guaranteed power outage.:rolleyes:

Yesterday I did a lot of cooking. I had plenty of clams left over from the Linguine and clams a couple of days ago that I made for good neighbors, so I made a gallon of Manhattan clam chowder.

(yes, many of my meals revolve around clams)

I also made 2 loaves of rosemary, olive oil Italian bread and one of my wife;s favorites, Broccoli rabe with shrimp.

That is another Italian peasant dish and since I am a peasant I eat a lot of it. :p

It took me quite a while to find American shrimp as most of it comes from Asia including India and I can't give that to my family. :)

right on about the shrimp. no imports on those.
wish I could source good live clams here.

I am on an Island so surrounded by clams. :D We don't catch shrimp here on Long Island but we get them from the Gulf. American Shrimp can be $30.00 a pound and shrimp from "other" places can be $6.00 a pound. There is a reason for that, but we can't get into that so just eat seafood, it's good for you. :cool:

I am also looking for American Calamari or Squid as we have a lot of company coming over the next few weeks. :p

Good morning. I’m so tired. At 2:29 this morning our security alarm went off. Scared the crap out of us and thought someone broke into our house. Thank goodness it was a false alarm. We have crank out windows with a lever lock. Well one in our daughter’s bedroom was not locked and it was so windy it jarred the windows enough to set off the alarm. But I couldn’t get back to sleep after that.

Good Morning! over the years we have lost a maple, an ash. and a pine. with only two big maples and a cherry left there is less to worry about in a wind storm. but i look out in the morning anyway. yep, a couple of dead branches from the maples littering the yard, but no damage, I hope you are finding the same.

Good morning! The wind was crazy yesterday! I finally dragged all the deck cushions inside. I hope my grill cover isn't 5 miles down the road. The storms are over. The power blipped a few times, but we didn't have to drag out the generator. It's almost Friday! :)

Good morning
It was beautiful here yesterday. Gone today. 70 with rain isn't to bad though.
2/3 of the rock came yesterday and we put it in the sump. Hoping for the other box today. It seems to have disappeared in Springfield MO.
Did my first water tests. Everything is close. I got the new lights programmed right I think. I have the PVC to make the new manifold but it wont fit with the rock in there. Neither will the 2 reactors I filled.

I might do nothing to today and take a break

Maybe some coffee would get me going

sp1187, they are a few hundred miles from me. A little to far to go for five bucks worth of squid.

I will just go to a seafood market here. It's about half an hour away for one that has fresh squid. :D

ReefGrammie, I use any kind of clam juice on the shelf. Clams themselves don't have enough juice for good Chowder so I add some. I make Manhattan clam chowder but most of the country makes New England Chowder which is mostly cream and potatoes and easier to make.

But it's not a healthy meal by far. But mine is. :p

Here on Long Island we also have plenty of lighthouses. We took a lighthouse cruise here and I think we visited 7 or 8 of them.

This one here, "Execution Lighthouse" I have a lot of experience with and have been all over this Island. It was also on an episode of Ghost Hunters.

Here we are on top of it.



And here I am on the rocks at the base of it. Plenty of lobsters there which is what I did there for many years. It was commissioned by George Washington so it is old.



A guy hired me to go there as a consultant because he bought the thing for one dollar. He wanted to build a Bed and Breakfast and I am an electrician.

The power cable going there is cut and they want about a million bucks to put in another one which ain't going to happen.

You also can't put sewage or waste water in the sea so all of it would have to be sailed back to shore a few miles away.

WE dove up to it years ago and the door was kicked in so we went in. There were WW2 electronic equipment all over the place. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
