Got a new powder blue!

Gotta say got y final tang for my tank, the infamous Powder Blue! Ich magnets, super territorial, but one of the most beautiful fish in the sea IMO. Got him from DrReef online. Ordered 3x a local fish store XL 6-8” and kept getting 3-4” shipped to him.. Finally said screw it and pulled my first order from these guys.

Let me start by saying how impressed I was from start to finish.

Ordered the fish
Waited 3 weeks was notified he’s ready
Got shipped to UPS LOCAL PICKUP
23lbs of water in a big box
Followed their acclimation process no drip he is gorgeous and fat
He started swimming around in minutes
He was eating within a couple hours
He is the new boss in the tank by end of day!

I just can’t give enough praise to these guys. I have never had any fish shipped to me this healthy in the first day.. And this isn’t some low stock aquarium, there are 7 other equally sized tang’s in there all 5-8”, not to mention the other 20 or so fish..

Day 2 He is swimming and eating like a champ!! Had to go outta town for a couple days. Scared to death being away but auto feeder is on and fingers crossed

Don’t ever get up the courage to be as stupor as I lol!! Had 40 fish in my tank when I added the PB. ATM I’m down to 17.. the pb got the ick :( I have been trying to remove all the fish for the better part of a month with lil success.. so far the only survivor still in qt is my 8” fox face.. been a horrific journey.. dosing h2o2 has had lil to no effect on staving off the death cycle. I’ve been in a state of depression over this for the last few weeks :( either way had to learn this lesson the hard way AGAIN off and when I get back to my normal spirits I will avoid this fish.. they just can’t handle the stress and I still can’t figure out how the ick showed up just mind boggling.. back to square one I guess

How big is your tank?

You feel like the powder was the culprit? Last addition?

400 gallon tank 150g sump, took about 2 weeks. There was something else as I saw a lot of fin rot after the initial first week. Over a period of 2 weeks ramped my h2o2 to 200ml p/day where it’s still at. Running Aqua Ultraviolet57watt on day 3 I bought a new bulb and sleeve overnighted them as my bulb was about a year old.
I avoided the PBT as they have been notorious ich magnet for me over the years but felt good cause of the dr reef guarantee?

Seems under Controll atm and a few fish I didn’t think we’re gonna survive have pulled through

It might have been a ich followed by a bad bacterial infection (fin rot).

Sounds like you were doing what you could.

Im surprised the fox face needed saving with their sloughing mucus coat and all.

I run peroxide pre-emptively, and run UV and freshwater dip all new fish. I practice ich management more than complete prevention. I feed heavy. If the fish makes it 3 weeks its a good indication it will live a long long time. Most do a few dont.

I have a 400g total system and run about 260ml of peroxide. 3 main doses and 1 double dose spread out overnight into 24 micro doses. This is a 25% reduction from what I used to run.

I felt pretty confident with pretty much the same course of action, I’m running 200ml of h2o2 on my Dos pump throughout the day? I had a ich breakout a couple years back and cured it with the h2o2 but apparently it came back :( got everything stabilized I think? This one hurt bad, My emperor angel was my fav fish just such a great personality but now i just am struggling to even look at my tank seems so empty :( I should have just continued the peroxide dosing.. always thought I was diminishing other beneficial life forms but lesson learned dang pb’s get me every time! Real bite in the **** was my yellow tang. I rescued him from a local Petco he had his entire tail eaten by a tank mate and could barely swim 3 years ago and I nursed him to what was a truly vibrant specimen :( ugggg

Jay Hemdal Vetteguy 31olds and MnFish will chime in and help. Consensus amongst the medics is All fish need quarantining/ Observation . I’m sure they can help you save your remaining stock. Heed their advice. I am truly sorry for your losses.
