I had violent stomach flu issues within 2 hours. I was rearranging rock, pulled out a few pieces for 30 min or less but I also found the I had cuts on my arms I was not aware of prior. Now I always shoulder length gloves when reaching in or WC and also planning using previously suggested PPE if I get sos/palys again

i believe this is the one that (pic1) spread to the other rock. the small spitting paly was attached the other rock (pic two) it was about the diameter of a pencil eraser. when i picked it up and out of the tank To remove it from. i just touched the thing to get a feel of how well attached it was. THEN IT SPIT ON ME. i have handled these guys robustly before with no problem. and the one time i act with caution... POWWWW.

Just seeing this now. If it had gotten you, the contact point would be welts by now. When I've been hit, within a couple hours I had welts at the contact points, and a feeling of malaise. The following day I didn't even get out of bed. The next day after that, I was back to feeling normal but still with the welt marks on my hands.

Im posting this paly colony fro sale. not chancing this any more. im will post it in the selling livestock, and all other relevant forums on an auction base. i dont care it someone gets it for 1 dollar. its gone. i would rather sell it than dig a whole and burying it. the wife said its either death or adoption of the palys or shes throwing a hammer thru my 150 if i every do get paly poisoning because i am not aloud to die. GREAT. LOL

I can't remember the actual number but believe it's in the top five of the most poisonous toxins. It's not something to fool with. Just handle with caution. I simply bumped into a colony while trying to catch a fish. Didn't even think about it when it happened. A couple hours later, you could see on my hands where I hid the corals....red welts. And I started feeling sick. Now, if I know I'm going close to or handling palys or zoas, I wear gloves.

EDIT TO ADD:

HERE's the Wikipedia on palytoxin

So are all the Zoa poisonous?
yes

Scientific name Family: Zoanthidae
Species: Protopalythoa mutuki

protopalythoa variabilis - Trumpet Polyp, Brown Button Polyps
Found in the Pacific, it has brown polyps that are connected at the base by stolons. They feed at night on zooplankton and other particles in the water column. They will bury themselves in the sand part way and like a quiet water flow.

Difficulty of Care Protopalythoa Coral Care: The Protopalythoa genus is easy to care for as long as they have adequate lighting and good water flow. Be cautious of filamentous algae as it will overgrown and smother polyps.

They are a recommended beginner's coral, but with some caution. Protopalythoa produce palytoxin, one of the most potent poisons known to science. For this reason one should take care when handling them. Don't handle them if you have cuts or open wounds and make sure to clean your hands after handling.

There are a couple of cautionary items to be aware of when you keep Zoanthids:

· Palytoxin
The members of the Zoanthidae family have varying degrees of poison called palytoxin. All of the Palythoagenus and most Protopalythoa genus produce a high level of this poison in their mucus and gonads. Other genera, such as the Zoanthus genus, have it to a lesser extent, and so a less dangerous degree.
To be affected by this toxin, it must either be ingested or must enter the bloodstream. It can enter the system through an open wound. It has been suggested by some that it may also be absorbed through skin contact though this is not confirmed.
The danger to the aquarist is minimal with proper precautions. If you have a cut on your hand, this poison can get into your system, but in average aquarium keeping it is unlikely to pose any danger beyond a localized skin reaction. Some hobbyists wear gloves when handling these organisms.

Because you have to get in inside you.
Also not all zoanthids and palythoas are lethal.
I've fragged zoanthids and palythoa polyps hundreds of times over more than 30 years and gotten the juice, slime on me and never, not once gotten sick, or felt anything
