Great pictures... how to

So i am guessing the first answer i will get... get a real camera

I always try to get a good photo using my cell phone. But I need to turn off the tank lighting and try to do it in natural daylight, but this doesn't show the color like you get under the lighting. So looking for any tips or tricks to get a good shot of the tank. I always see some amazing photos here. I would love to do the same. As always... thanks in advance i look forward to your input

get a filter for your phone and learn how to use settings like exposure and shutter speed. Also, try editing your photos afterward for better results.

So I can give some pointers!

1. Get a lens kit for your phone. I use the orphek clip on lens kit for my phone. Comes with an orange filter, a yellow one, a base lens, and a macro filter

2. You can get good photos with your phone and dslr camera.

3. Use Lightroom, apples in-house photo software, or your favorite photo editor to boost the colors in your photo.

Below are some example photos I have gotten. All done using an iPhone 16 with an orphek orange lens and macro lens attachment. You can get good photos with a phone, just takes practice!

I have a dslr camera as well (Nikon 5600) it’s a littler harder to get photos with that due to led light flickering that can be common when using a fast shutter speed, not to mention I don’t have a macro lens for it

I suggest lots of Practice. Take 30-50 shots for each photo, then choose the best one. An orange filter and macro lens will help a lot. Learn how to use manual settings instead of auto settings. Try taking pics with the flow off. Also get a good photo editor to correct color temperature, shadows, exposure, and sharpness. These were shot on an iPhone 15 pro max…

There are some useful tips in the stickies in the photography forum. I get pretty accurate colors by adjusting the white balance in the camera app.

Several year old iPhone
Reefin art clip on orange lens
No ambient room lighting
Strong blue lighting, look at camera phones screen, start at 0 white, add white until color is correct
Click on target on the screen to focus

Keep in mind cameras have a focal distance range. If the subject is close and the camera won’t focus, back away slowly until it’s focused on the screen then zoom in

Take pic
I Don’t do any editing or software adjustments
Helps to turn off flow so subject isn’t moving and blurry
