Hi Folks,

I'm sure this topic has been covered in-depth already. Could someone point me towards instructions on how to set up a pod cultivation system?

thank you

Are you thinking you want to cultivate them in your display? Or do you have a sump? Or are you thinking about having a separate tank just for pods? Let us know so we can best help!

Hi, I have a old, 40 gallon sump, pump and cheapo Chinese LED box I thought I would use to cultivate some pods

Poseidon Reef Systems has an awesome setup for cultivating pods. I just harvested my first batch of pods and it was super simple, and My results were amazing! I released hundreds of pods into my DT and had plenty left over to start another batch!
im using the posiedon reef systems as we speak. I finished 2 full cultures of the nano phyto... the pods are on day 12. Im starting to see tons of tiny tiny tiny Tisbe pods on the sides of the bag inside the jar.

what kind of pods are you wanting to culture.. I will say i probably have tons of tisbe already in there. it looks like i have none since they are so tiny and dont swim. they kinda walk on the sides. my visually messing with my head i have not gotten the satisfaction yet because i dont see any

if u want the satisfaction of watching a culture tank just packed with swimming pods. Tiger is probably your bet.

20gal long- Rock, sand, seachem tidal 55, ice cap 1k, old beams work fspec led (not the good one!), cycled with a clown, first sign of diatoms ordered snail only pack from ReefCleaners, 1 week later (4/22/20) introduced the above pods pack from AB, feed phyto everyday and frozen baby brine half cube every 3 days.

Those above photos taken this morning... that’s not dirty water it’s all pods! Considering a mandarin for this tank because of the pod population. Only been 8 days since first pod introduced!

If considering this route definitely feed the phyto daily... says for first 2 weeks. I think that’s why they have bloomed so quickly besides lack of predators. No fish in this tank at the moment.

I'm working with a pretty dense culture of Tigriopus in a 3 gallon bucket for a breeding project. It is pretty simple and inexpensive. You can harvest once or twice a week and add them to the tank.

I am growing phyto, but mostly for enrichment before feeding larvae. They will grow quite well off of prepared feeds or concentrated algae mixes.

What are you trying to accomplish with the culture? That will really drive what you set up, how large, and what species (which will drive the food used).
A 40, would be a really big culture. Running smaller cultures at higher densities is typically considered easier than larger, low density cultures. Lower food, energy, and time input required.
You don't need the light for pods.
