gyre vertical or horizontal?

The ideal placement has a lot to do with the footprint of the tank and the design of the rockwork. Mine runs horizontal about 3/4 up the right side of the tank.
 
60x22x23,,,large overflow back left corner 8x8 presently running gyre left side between front glass and overflow about 5 in from waterline
