Recently bought myself the gyre xf130 as I've heard good reviews on it. Once I placed it in my tank everything was fine for about an hour, but then the noise slowly gets louder..

it's on pulse mode and I can hear a humming from the slow/fast motion of the gyre...

If I turn the pump off and back on or put the flow in forward then switch back to reverse mode it stops for an hour or two but the noise comes straight back.

Really annoying as it's in my living room

I know they need a break in period but I don't think it should start quiet and then get louder? Any ideas what this could be before I just return it and stick with my jebao [emoji849]

When I had mine that was an indicator it was time to clean it. I guess since the blades are horizontal and get full exposure to lights algae builds up on them a lot quick and because of their design they get noisy.

It had recently been stripped and cleaned. Starts off silent but then over the course of an hour or two the humming gets progressively worse.

Any idea why it starts silent then gets louder? I've ordered new rotors but hoping it's not the motor or shaft as they are quite expensive..

Depending on the age of the unit, I had issues with a 150 that was caused by the rotors not being seated completely in the bushings at either end. As the rotors moved, they would rub, causing noise that would gradually build. Also a good idea to check the bushings where the rotors met the motor shaft. Make sure everything is cinched down really tight.

I took the rotors out and have been running the pump without them for a few hours now and it's still silent so the rotors must be the problem. Taking them I've noticed one blade is missing, I know this can cause macro bubbles but can the sound also be caused by this?

Make sure you don't have the older version ceramic bushings as they are loud and have been upgraded
Also I agree to make sure rotors and bushings are clean inside and out as crud can build up and make noise
If it's really clean and still gets louder like a moan or roar then replace all bushings
Just rebuilt a 150 with same issue, ceramic bushings and others were worn
It's quiet now with the normal noise of operation at high speeds above 7

I'm just waiting on new rotors to come then I can see if that's the problem. I ran the pump without rotors and everything was silent so I'm hoping this sorts the issue.

On mine that usually happens if I dont have the rotors or cages on quite right. After a cleaning sometimes the end cap of the cage isnt sitting right and will cause a sound or vibration. I usually power down, pull it all apart and put back together again and it solves the problem.
