So I have a Redsea 425 G2+. Im using Maxspect FX330 cloud edition Gyres. So the question is, are you getting better tank flow mounting them on the back wall as opposed to the sides?

I would use an airstone or baster to blow airbubbles into the gyre to observe the flow. Alternatively, use RedSea AB+ to see how the flow goes and if there are any dead spots.

But to answer your questions, both do work depending on your needs. I have mine one on each side of the tank. I've seen some other setups with their gyres on the back wall. Either way, you need to see how it works with the tank and how your corals react to it.

I'm not having any issues at the moment, but if I can do something that would be better, then I'm all for changing things up.

If you're not having any issues then what could be better?

Most people mount them to either end of the tank.

Me? I did not want to see them that much, so I mounted them on the back glass on either side of my overflow.... I have them pointed about 30 degrees in to the back glass, and I get good flow throughout the tank except right behind them - Where I doubt it would get much better since there's all sorts of rock there that would block the flow anyway.

I find this much better to look at.
