H202 for pump cleaning

@Randy Holmes-Farley thoughts on using diluted hydrogen peroxide as a 10 min "dip" to clean pumps on a biweekly basis? Lets say I use 3% H202 diluted 1:3 or 1:5 with freshwater...would this cause any excess damage to pump/powerhead parts?

FWIW I typically use diluted vinegar to clean my pumps over many hours but this may allow me to clean them more frequently. Due to high nutrients at the moment I'm having to clean my pumps fairly often.

What are you hoping to remove? Algae?

The most problematic deposit is calcium carbonate on pump impellers, and peroxide has no effect on it. You need acid to dissolve it. :)

Yes algae. This tank is an algae farm and pumps get covered pretty quickly. Long term solution is nutrient control of course :)

If you stick to 3% hydrogen peroxide or more dilute, I don't think there's a problem with materials that are otherwise OK in a marine aquarium. :)

What ratio are you using? Had an old pump in a dino farm and I need to clean it before it I add to a new setup.
