mags are carpet anemones, i’ve seen 3ft diameter ones in videos

Sorry I begin to differ. Magnificas are not carpet anemones. I have kept a number of Magnificas over the years and none have ever eat any of my fish. Here is a video of my current Magnifica house with many fish. Carpet anemonhave a much stronger sting and reside on the sand.

Mags are brilliant anemones. just give them light and water flow as per my vids. Never lost a fish to one and they will split now and again. They aren't so fussy about water quality either. Both nitrate and phosphates tolerant.

Yep. A good size pyramid butterfly and a Lennardi wrasse. Surprised me!

Curious, what temp was your tank at? I read lennardi like cooler tanks and mags like your typical 76-78 degree tank.

Also, how long did you have that lennardi before it became lunch?

I had the Lennardi for about two years before the Mag got him. He was a food hog! My tank stayed right around 78 +/- 1 degree. I manage heat with a chiller.

In which case the fish was either already dead or close to it. Mags do not have a powerful sting like some other anemones.

Well, the fish showed no indication of being sick at all. No one else in the tank had been, or later got, sick. No recent new introductions. The fish involved were caught by the anemone about 6 months apart. They were in the tentacles and appeared to have been partially digested.

I think the placement of the anemone was part of the problem. He was directly 18” below the spot where I most often fed fish. That was my mistake. There was just too much traffic in the area.

I agree Mags are a pretty safe bet. And they can be beautiful!

I agree Mags are a pretty safe bet. And they can be beautiful!

I have been keeping mags with small fish for about 40 years 3 mags in total over that time. None ever caught a fish. A wrasse is one of the last fish I would expect a mags to catch and kill.

if they get startled ONCE and dive into the anemone instead of the sand, it’s just dead. literally no reason to risk your fish wellbeing when mags look great in a nano display.

Just never heard of it nor experienced such unlike some other anemones just not Magnificas.
