Hi everyone. About six months into saltwater tanking, so quite a coral newbie. I have two hammers that act differently and I wanted to get input in regards to if it’s common. My gold tipped hammer that’s been in the tank for 4 months, the tentacles are very open. Then my purple tipped, in the tank about a month, the tentacles are out of the skeleton, but bunched tight together. They are on the same rock so the height is equal, get almost the same flow, about 5 inches apart, so the only difference is the purple tipped is closer to the light. Is this normal behavior for different hammers, one spread out and the other stay tight?

Normal behavior. Mine will do the same from head to head on the same colony. A lot depends on the light and flow it’s getting. If the color is solid and they’re open be happy. They’re hardy corals
