I would like to hang my ReeFi LEDs from the ceiling. I purchased some 2040 aluminum to mount them on. Problem is, my ceiling joists run parallel with the tank, and neither of them is lined up with the center of the tank. I'm really apprehensive about dropping wires that are anchored only in the drywall ceiling. The lights and 2040 as pictured weigh 6.0 lbs.

Thoughts?

I had the same issue. Solved it by screwing 2 1x2” boards for each light to the joists. I made sure they were each screwed across two of the ceiling joists.

EDIT: I thought your post said 60 lbs, but it says 6. This is overkill. The anchors that @BryanM mentioned will be plenty.

On my lights (same problem) i put 1 screw eye in each truss (or joist) and used wire from each to suspend the light in between.
You could use the same method with 4 screw eyes on a longer light or bar if needed.

I've used both of these with great success.

For really heavy things I've also used these, but for your application I think they are overkill:

BryanM, thoughts about the weight (6 lbs.) hanging from two points in the drywall above?

I wouldn't be concerned at all, assuming you take care installing the anchors.

If you're extremely concerned and have access to the attic/space above, you could install a 2x4 that you could use as a mount point as well.

Maybe this link will work
