Bad checker?
First reading 2.9
Second 2.5
Put in brand new battery
Third reading 2.9
Opened a new reagent even though the first one I used doesn't expire until 8/26.
Fourth reading 2.7

Two Salifert tests 7.5 & 7.7 respectively. Is this thing dead or what?

I do have the Hanna Check Set & it's showing the device is working correctly, so don't really know what to think. Stumped 🤔

Edit:
Hydros PH 8.28
American Marine PH 8.32

Not sure if I understood you correctly, but the expiration date is for unopened reagents. Once you open it, it will go bad faster.

That is pretty normal and I don't think they can fix it. The readings will get really low once the reagent has gone bad.

You confirmed the checker is reading correctly using the standard. Color in the vial is very light which would give a low dkh reading, so appears the checker is reading correctly. Which really only leaves bad reagent or really low dkh. But I would say really low dkh seems unlikely since you tested with the salifert.

Are the older and newer reagents the same batch number? Is it possible they are both bad? Maybe?

Same batch #, same expiration dates.
Last 5 readings with the first one:
11/27 9.8
11/30 9.8
12/4 9.0
12/8 8.4
12/12 7.1
Today 2.9 & 2.5

There is a downward trend. Not sure why. I did add supplemental lighting a couple weeks ago. 4 AI Blades but they are set at 50% & on acclimation mode. They are at literally 20% right now. If my Alk was really that low, would I see signs of stress from corals or fish? Everything looks fine.

I just got a Hanna Alk Checker and Already sending it back. This morning, 3 tests within 15 minutes. 10.2, 6.8, and 7.0 with my Salifert testing at 8.6 consistently. Terrible, How are these that much but so inconsistent?

My Nitrate Hanna is working pretty good so far.
