Hey all,

I want to start upgrading my testing kit from Salifert to Hanna now that my tank is cycled and have introduced a few beginner-friendly corals.

What are the Hanna testers recommended to have for corals?

As of now, these are the testers I have on my cart:
•Phosphate
•Alkalinity
•Calcium

And will continue to use Salifert for:
•NO3
•PH
•Magnesium

I own a 15G nano and do 20-15% water changes weekly.

Any recommendations appreciated and any suggestions on what to buy first in order, since I would like to avoid buying all at once

I'm actually downgrading away from hanna, the regeant costs are getting out of hand.

hanna is the king for phosphate tests, nothing else comes close. But its super rare I test phosphate anymore

I like hanna for alk as well because its so fast and simple, but I cut down on my testing frequency to save on regeant costs. I do use the salifert test sometimes , again just to make the hanna regeant last longer.

I do like the hanna calcium tester but I only test every 6 months or so, just to check. IMO it should not need frequent calcium testing.

Just my 2 cents.

Oh. I haven’t even looked at the price for reagents. Ok. I have noticed a trend for magnesium and calcium testing being less frequent than Phosphates and NO3 testing. Thanks for the heads up!

Phosphate (or phosphorus) is Hana’s best
CA doesn’t work well and is inconsistent
MG is not great as well

Salifert everything except ALK and phosphate
This a frequent comment I see. “Hanna Calcium and magnesium test aren’t accurate.” So that’s a nice way to save 60$ lol.

Hanna is great for Phosphate.

For the rest I just use Salifert.

I recently sold the rest of my Hanna checkers because Salifert are:
- About as accurate
- Cheaper to use
- Quicker to use
