Have you ever really liked an acro frag but felt disappointed when grown out it wasn't what you expected or hoped? Whether it was growth pattern, coloration, etc.

I have some frags that disappoint me (RTN aside). I’ve bought a pack from a member with pretty good pics only to be underwhelmed still until this day. True, they may take time, but I’ve also gotten frags from other members that look exactly. The. Same. As their own colonies and the pics of frags they send me. I only have 2-3 trusted sources on R2R now.

Yes, I ordered from RRUSA during their last live sale and the frags I received were a joke. I honestly thought about reporting them to the BBB it was so bad. Never again. Their photoshopped coral pics are a joke. Steer clear.
Not to say that they could have some nice corals, but they won't look anything like their pics

Any acro pic that just “pops” or glows is going to be underwhelming IMO/E
The all blue taken with a filter is becoming the norm it seems.

Sellers like Battle Corals (myself LOL) a few others take true to life pics for the stuff they sell and what you get is what you see.

Buyer beware these days.

And to answer the OPs questions yes I have, many frags (90 percent) of a pack from vivid was disappointing but I knew going going into it they won’t look like the sale/WYSIWYG pic

Just out of curiosity...was the disappointment for most of you folks when you got the corals and colors were not like in the picture or after they have grown?

Both, but the frags themselves when they arrived were basically colorless. Worst I've seen from anyone vendor or hobbyist.

Some of it is it’s not wyswyg like they claim others is photo shopped to look like it never will other times for me anyway is a one inch frag is not longer one inch but you pay for it

For me I buy corals from people who i trust whose photos are either spot on or worse then what the coral actually looks like there is so much that goes into coloring up a coral so I don’t get mad at that as I run system built to grow not really to show at least not yet anyway so I’m more mad when what I pay for isn’t what I get like 1mm frags that we’re supposed to be one inch but after I make that mistake I just don’t shop at that place anymore no more money from me

And since I have started messing around taking proper photos learning from some of the best out there I can now look at certain peoples photos and know that it is dr up so that has helped a bunch as well

I was at Vivid earlier this year. Saw all of their backroom grow out tanks as well as their giant display. Under both full day time lights and full actinic. Their pics are a little too generous in my opinion and the corals don't quite look as nice in person. They have very nice pieces though. I took pics...one of these days I'll get around to posting them

Second person I have seen (who I trust) say this but what is weird is that there is multiple people out there who claim they have been to the shop and they say it is amazing there

Let’s just say for arguments sake vivids rainbow delight is the worst frag ever brown as they come no matter who it is from but once it is settled in its an amazing coral may be all of there corals are that way

I don’t know but someone I trust has said the same thing as u they are horrible

Recently I have not been disappointed with corals because I try to collect mainly wild or Mari for my tank. So I am normally surprised at what I get in the first place and have no expectations on colors or size.
Seriously though I stay away from vendors who are selling “high end” stuff. I have ordered from most of them in the past and never opened a box with a smile. Reef raft shipped me a bunch of crazy expensive acro nubs in the CHEAPEST bags possible! 1/3 of them were popped. That turned me away from high end vendors. I have bags that are really thick and they were not expensive. If your shipping crazy money corals, please, please, look into buying decent bags.
I am surprised that a lot of these vendors are successfully staying in business. I have heard the same bad reviews over and over from certain vendors, yet still people let the hype soak into their mind and the crazy photography soak into their eyes and end up thinking they are getting something special.

If they are the pieces you see on FB auctions they aren’t even close even with all blue LED and a filter that has become the norm these days.

I bought frags from all of these and about 13 more- not even close but I know they will be nice just never what you’ll see in these.

It’s not the all blue nor the combo of the filter, I can say even with as little of photography editing I do have, these are not WYSIWYG
But I knew that going into it I feel bad for all those that don’t know and get taken for huge dollars

Sorry if I’ve derailed the thread a bit

I would have felt deceived. Thats why allot of people ask for 10-12k spectrum pics.
