Latest update is that we are still in a state of emergency and the fire itself was upgraded from 'watch and act' to 'emergency level'. It has jumped from 18,000 hectares to 20,000 in the last couple of hours. It is causing spot fires up to 15km away from the main front due to ember attacks.
Thanks for all the well wishes. Right now we are on alert but safe. Everyone has been preparing for this and has a survival plan. I have a massive eucalyptus tree in my yard (we aren't allowed to cut them down not that I want to) and if that goes up in flames our house is gone. So our survival plan is as soon as we see flames cresting on the hills or ember attacks we are filling the gutters and downpipes with water, leaving buckets of water everywhere for the wildlife to hide and taking the kids dogs and cat and getting the heck out. Go bags are packed, car is ready to go. If the house goes, it goes. My only regret would be the reef tank :(
