some like to use that type of product, others just let it happen naturally. I'm of the latter opinion, but it won't hurt

should I also siphon the sand, as it's gone a little brown?
That falls into the category of chasing issues. A new tank will have a diatom bloom, algae blooms, etc...again, I'm of the opinion that you just let it happen, you're generally not going to be able to stop that kind of thing. I never siphon my sand bed.. Literally, ever.

To me this falls under the category of "natural progression". I would leave it be, it's going to happen no matter what IMO....

Welcome and nice tank. Those first pics you posted were very nice. I was thinking to myself “that sand is so white!” What brand is it! I’m also working on my first build(got wet and started cycling on June 29th). No fish yet. Actually I’m stuck on choosing lights. I haven’t yet come to grips with having to settle on less expensive lights. Best wishes!!
