My name is Jeremy. I have been in the hobby for 20+ years, most of which was keeping freshwater. I live near Portland, Oregon about an hour and a half from the ocean. I have previously worked in the industry on both sides in Zoos and Aquariums, as well as wholesale. I have extensive experience with freshwater species from all over the world, but still learning about the salt side of the hobby. I have worked on life support systems for 12,000 FW tanks, GPO, sharks, Indo-Pacific, and Jellies. I maintained a 220G SPS reef and a 75G NPS reef for three years at a previous employer. I am working in food safety now, and have exited the industry for now. Until about 5 years ago, I had maintained 6 freshwater tanks 20G - 75G in my homes. I've had to move several times in the past few years, so I have downsized several times.
My current focus is on temperate species. I have the benefit of living near the coast and Oregon has relatively lax collection laws with a fishing and shellfish license (compared to CA/WA) . The other benefit has been I was fresh out of college when I started, and this hobby can be very expensive. I collect about 85-90% of my live stock and have ordered some from local collectors and from Maine. I currently have been running a 75G Temperate system. I moved this month and will be incorporating a second tank to the system over the next few months, as I have time. Compared to many of the member tanks, this system is low-tech and may not be as colorful. However, I also enjoy the novelty of doing something a little different. Cheers.
