Hi I've been in the freshwater hobby for around 5 years & decided to make the switch to saltwater around a two months ago. I currently have a Red Sea Reefer 170 G2 which I'll be posting a build thread for, it's currently set up just missing the final touch, saltwater. Before I fill it, just wanted to get everyone's input.

Welcome! Glad you joined. Having your own RO/DI to make your own saltwater definitely is handy. If I had it to do over again, I'd want faster model but I saved money and at the time that was the most important aspect because I just had to get going.

Excited to hear you considered starting your build thread already! I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you in New York:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Found your build thread, but you don't yet show a badge. Enjoy the extra bling by going into your account and linking up your build thread to your account and then within an hour or faster, automatically, your badge should show up

Usually, I'll suggest that you build your tank around the fish you'd like to keep. But since you've already purchased the tank, I would suggest:

1. Place a level across the tank to be sure its... well... level.
2. Run it with RODI water and be sure you are leak free.
3. No leaks? Good. Begin adding salt mix and bring your salinity up to 35ppt.

How do you plan on cycling the tank?
