A couple of my acans are starting to recede. Water parameters are good and many other acans are ok. I've heard about small worms that can target acans but I haven't seen any. Any advise?

I would recommend trying an iodine dip. It may have a bacterial or fungal infection of some sort.

+1 on iodine dip. Had a similar issue recently and iodine did the trick.

Little cup, tank water, enough iodine to make the water a medium dark tea color and I'd leave it sit for10 minutes or so.

Only thing that stops the worms is interceptor. You will not see this so called worm till you dip or treat the tank. Interceptor is very hard to find these days because it's no longer produced.... So if you can't find interceptor use sentinel, it's also a heart worm medicine. Looks like you run LEDs too... From my experience I've seen Acans not do to great. I think Mike Paletta did a review in a 75g about this. Good luck!

I suspect vermited snails are your problem. Best seen at night with a flashlight. This very fine tentacle is hard to see but most likely the reason your acans are closed from the stinging. Aiptasia x is i good remedy or glue the hole shut.

Thank you all for your advice. I just looked at my acans with a flashlight and noticed pods moving all over them. They were about 2 mm. Could this be my problem? I ordered interceptor spectrum but it comes from Aussie so I don't know how long it will take to arrive but it won't be here soon enough. Is Sentinel just as good?

I went to my vet today for sentinel and it turns out they had some interceptor!! Just pulled out my snails and treated the tank. We'll see if that does the job.

I hope you have also done an iodine dip already as that is the cheapest and most immediate treatment and in my opinion probably also the solution to your issue.

I just use the good old betadine or povadine maybe it's called from any local store that carries first aid stuff. Walgreens, cvs, Walmart, raleys etc etc. use a cup of water, drop and mix the betadine until the water is darker than test but not coffee dark. Dip acan for 5-10mins and return him home.

I did the iodine dip for the 3 most affected acans but it was too late. I believe I have bacterial infections resulting from damage caused by the infestation. I spoke with someone at a lfs yesterday who told me they had an issue with shipment of Aussie acans a while back and their supplier told them it was most likely a worm that attacks them and interceptor will take care of them. I will try the betadine tomorrow when I dip again.

I've found that if its bacterial a 5-10 minute dip is enough to kill bacteria and my acans usually look really happy and puffed up and appreciative within 48 hours.

Well the interceptor treatment didn't stop the problem with my acans. I am now thinking I may have a tang problem. I noticed yesterday, after target feeding the night before, that my Maciliceps tang was visiting every LPS in the tank and giving them a nip to make them spit out the food. That tang would walk through fire for a bite of fauna Marin LPS pellets. The constant harassment could be the cause of the wound that becomes infected. The acans I have caught early and dipped in iodine and moved are recovering. I've read many threads were even well fed tangs can start to go after LPS. Anyone else experience this before?
