I’m doing my first yearly maintenance on my UV sterilizer. It’s a lifeguard aquatics pro max. Whenever I try and place the o-ring it just shoots right off. It’s the correct size too.

Is there a trick in getting these to stay? There’s no indentation to fit them into. When I took this apart they just shot off. The install video (second photo) shows it fitting snuggly, but of course the video doesn’t show how to put it on…

I'm not familiar with the sterilizer, but try warming the gasket in a coffee mug of hot water. It will soften the rubber and make it behave a bit better.

O-rings tend to shrink with age…

If the o-ring is installed with any cross-section rotation to it (think about how you pre-load a garden hose to get a neat coil), it will want to rotate back to it’s original shape, popping out of the seating groove!

As @redfishbluefish said, a warm water soak will definitely help to loosen the O-ring up/make it more pliable!

I usually roll those right on. Maybe put one side on and stretch the other over the end. Go around the circle until it's seated pulling out and moving the oring down. Those rings are tight, but they will stretch some. Hope that makes sense. Orings can get like rubber bands if you roll them on and they twist funny.

I've changed them I think 4 times now.

Yep, that was the key. Thanks guys!
