Help blue tuxedo urchin!

So I woke up this morning to find that my cleaner shrimp was picking at my urchin and when I looked the top was gone... it’s moving fine has not lost any spines but the ones the cleaner shrimp picked off is it going to be ok or should I just remove it??? BEFORE

That's a pretty serious looking wound, but I don't know enough about urchins to say whether it's catastrophic or not... Can you catch and move the urchin into the sump (or better; a QT tank) for observation?

Looks like he's dropped most, if not all, of his spines, as well?

That's generally not good . . . Sorry to say, but I don't think this guy's going to make it. Echinoderm veterinary practice isn't something I'm an expert in, though.

How much Algae do you have in your tank and have you tried supplementing him? When urchins are exposed to higher Nitrate or left without food for 3 days they will begin losing their spines and begin the rot in some places which seems to be the case with yours. Try feeding him Nori if he'll still eat and let us know how it goes :)

If you have a sump I'd put him there.
Thee should be food for it and it'll discourage further predation.
I can't quite see enough detail in the after pic to comment on health.
Plus it's really hard to say, ime , it's hard to gauge health by looking.

The shrimp may have just been being a standard shrimp jerk , or he's using his nose and the poor urchin is on its way out already.
