I just looked at one of my chalice colonies and one of the biggest eye's skin is peeling from the middle out! Im not sure why, this chalice has been eating like crazy and growing and has been nice and puffy every day,now I look at it and it is recceding from the eye out:cry:

Im going to go test the water, but 2 days ago it was perfect mag 1400,alk between 8-9,ph 8.4, etc. all pars were spot on perfect!!!

In the case that the reccession worsens, what should i do?

Cut it in half? Like the recceding eye on 1 half the healthy side on the other

Also should I move it to low flow and low light now?

Ive dealt with alot of chalice issues but non like this...

PLEASE HELP!

Something like this was posted a few days ago with a wild colony he bought off ebay. I do feel eyes are last to recede im very curious what others say about this. I think fragging it would be more stress, low light and flow would be best.

That stinks. I have heard some people talking about putting super glue on corals where they are receeding to stop it. Maybe it's worth a try.

Thats why i thougt it was weird to, 1/2 of the eye is just recedding..no other parts of the coral

and btw I found out what it was.............

Somehow in 2 days my alk went from 8.4 to 5.6,I have dosed nothing,so im nost sure what could off balance it to make it do that...but im pretty sure that is the cause.......

So is shade and low flow the best thing I can do for it atm?

Mine did the same thing as m and m said, I had to frag it up and it seemed that when I fragged it it actually helped it out and the recession stopped. I now have like 10 frags that are 1" or bigger.

It's weird how often this actually helps- I'd always figure that fragging something would be stressful, not helpful.

But yea-a bit of revive, low light, low flow, and feed it.

I would say you should definitely frag it. If there is skin peeling there is probably an infection. I have had this happen many times to wild colonies. Dipping is usually not as effective as fragging, ime. I would dip as you frag tho ;) Make sure you frag out the entire infected area, make sure to make some frags out of 100percent healthy flesh.

Can you post pics of it, so people can understand about the RTN from the one eye. Also +1 to the low light and low flow area. I would also try the revive dip, couldnt hurt it. Good luck!

+1 revive, spray the spot with a turkey baster while dipping to debride dead tissue. I would do this then consider fragging if it gets worse. Keep it away from the banana banshee!! :)

No other chalice in my tank is doing this. Maybe something fell on it?
