We added a black tip red starfish to our tank. I've read that they usually die due to not being fed correctly. It's been in the tank for a week now. I tried feeding it clam tonight. (Not certain in ate any) I pushed the clam up under the belly of the starfish and shoed the fish and crabs away that were trying to steal it for about 20 minutes. Then let it be. Clams gone but I'm assuming the others stole it.

What's the best way to keep this stars belly full?

Black Tip Red Starfish sounds like a Fromia species to me, and the thread below may be helpful here, but basically you can see if you can train it to eat things like fresh clams and masstick and find a way to feed it in the tank without having the food stolen by fish or other inverts; I wouldn't expect it to live more than ~8-13 months either way at this point though:

Feed the whole tank, then if you can, get him stuck on the front glass over the clam on the half shell you want to feed. He should stay in place and you get to watch him exude his pyloric stomach and feed as a cool benefit.
