Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening everyone,

I've searched for an answer before posting this and have come up empty handed. I'm in the process of doing a sump cleanup and water change to remove detritus. I removed the skimmer to clean it as well and discovered this behind the unit. The tank is doing really well so I don't believe its overly harmful but would like to know what it is. Looks and feels like sauerkraut. Thanks in advance for help with identification!

Crazy growth of poriferan sponge. Use a plastic scraper and lift and peel and discard
