I picked up this sailfin from a friend's established system few days ago. Hes been in that system for a few years perfectly fine. Day after adding him to my system he started getting some weird stuff on him. Doesn't seem like ich to me. Need to know if this is something I can treat with medicine or needs to go in copper.

Sadly ich, you will need to copper QT. Follow Jay’s protocol.
2.25ppm min of copper power or copper safe.

30 days copper and your tank is now infected. The others will also eventually get ich.

60 days fallow.

I can handle ich. Was just hoping it wasnt velvet. I have fish in this system id be devastated to loose.
I have a permanently set up qt and will work on moving them over. Thank you.

I agree, A hefty kick in the nuts!.
'All livestock re cryptocaryon irritans will require treatment'
If your system is heavily stocked then you can control using UV and Ozone. You will never eradicate this but you can control using this method.

Yeah ive maintained it in all my systems for years. Just never seen it this heavy on a fish. I'm going to start with metro and kana soaked food and uv is going. I beat it in my 375 pretty well using the metro kana mix. Appreciate the input

Been there my friend, i kept a system fallow for 6 month, quarantined fish, taking slide samples( microscopic slides) etc. I use UV but Ozone is my favourite

I've debated setting up ozone. Just never pulled the trigger. I've usually had good luck against ich so hoping that continues lol.
Id have to tear this whole tank down to catch everything. But if it gets too bad I will. I have a massive blotchy, nice Gem, and a tailless blue hippo I can't even take the thought of losing.

Livestock will appear like it survives in gravity, water clarity is phenomenal. Research is a must, not only to your livestock but more importantly your own health, Sounds selfish but you will understand on research

Ive definitely looked into it a good bit and understand what you mean. Main reason i haven't gotten it. Especially with having kids in the home.

Sorry - that does look like ich. Often, moving fish creates enough stress to allow any Cryptocaryon on the fish, or in your system to become more active.

The differential diagnosis here is "mucus plugs" (also from stress, but often associated with ich) or possibly flukes (but the fish with flukes will be seem scratching, more than seen with ich). I can't see clearly in the video - but you're in a better position to see this; if you can see spots on the fins, that confirms ich versus mucus plugs that are only found on the body.

If it is ich, it looks too advanced for "ich management" to work very well - the stress of many ich trophonts on the fish tends to override the minor effect that management methods will have.

Ich management often ineffective and buys time. Best is effective treatment such as coppersafe or Copper Power at therapeutic level 2.25 for a FULL 30 days (do not interrupt this 30 day period) monitored with a Hanna Brand copper test kit- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone. All other fish in with it should also be removed as they have also been exposed to the parasites and placed in quarantine tank.
The display tank will have to be kept fishless (FALLOW) for 6-8 weeks to assure the existing parasites go through their life cycle without a host fish and die off. Inverts and coral can remain in the display (not treatment) tank during fallow period.

Understand, I am fortunate that my system is enclosed and extracted. Ozone is heavier than air. You could run at night.
I dose o3 for 1hr every 4hr interval. Been doing this for 20yrs. Industrial units are very different and the affects they have on the lungs 😉

Soak food in meteoplex and kanaplex. Not saying ik for a fact if it helped, but haven't lost a fish to ich before.
Sales pitch from 'Seachem' re Kanaplex ... meteoplex...that not a transformer? . lol

Mate don't dose bottled chems into your system ,You are wasting money! Causing stress towards coral etc. You will fight a continuous battle and eventually give in.

It is Possible, When the gills are affected, that is when any treatment will be worthless
