Help identifying

Soak food in meteoplex and kanaplex. Not saying ik for a fact if it helped, but haven't lost a fish to ich before.

Neither of those drugs are indicated for treating Cryptocaryon. Metronidazole was promoted as an ich cure early on, back in the 1980's (and still shows up online) but other drugs have been found to be much more effective.

Also, oral meds used to treat external protozoan infections have a severe drawback in that the route of these medications - from the digestive track out to the skin of the fish, is a long way to go - bath treatments are always going to be more effective. Then, "soaking foods with medication" gives an unknown dose - the meds rinse off at an unknown rate, and since the original dose wasn't calculated properly, there is no way to know if the dose is appropriate!

Anyone interested in using oral meds needs to research the process and do it properly (It's a LOT of work!). I have an article on how to do that properly:

It is Possible, When the gills are affected, that is when any treatment will be worthless

When the number of visible ich trophonts on a fish total more than around 30 spots per side, ich management almost never works. People still want to try it, because it "avoids" the need to treat the fish separate from corals and invertebrates, but the results in moderate cases of ich is very poor. For folks that still want to try it, they need to go in with "all guns blazing", and hit the tank with multiple methods at the same time - trying just a few of the methods usually fails. I discuss all that here:

I can handle ich. Was just hoping it wasnt velvet. I have fish in this system id be devastated to loose.
I have a permanently set up qt and will work on moving them over. Thank you.

With velvet by the time you see it, most fish will be dead. You will see the symptoms well before the visual.

Forget counting spots, Once the gills are infected it is game over.

The thing that most don’t get with these diseases is that they tend to attack gills firsts. Easiest place to get to the feeding ground they are looking for. It’s why velvet is so effective. It gets into the gills in no time. By the time you see it on the body fish has very little life left sadly.

You have done your research

I try to do as much as I can when it comes to research. Not putting energy into research will only make you end up getting out of the hobby sooner than later because you end up failing. The hobby is pricey as it stands, then add failure…. 😭😭😬

Cryptocaryon infections always begin on the body, so any gill involvement (that can only be seen by doing a biopsy) only happens later in the infection. If you are seeing rapid breathing, that’s velvet or gill flukes, and neither of those can be “managed”.

Yeah ive maintained it in all my systems for years. Just never seen it this heavy on a fish. I'm going to start with metro and kana soaked food and uv is going. I beat it in my 375 pretty well using the metro kana mix. Appreciate the input
DO NOT START Kana/Metro mixed food. There is no reason for it, and you're adding 2 other medications which are unnecessary to copper which if its ich will be all thats needed. Kanamycin is toxic orally, and both are hard to dose in food (you have no way to know how much they are eating, etc._
