Help me choose Gyre Orbit vs maxspect

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on a new Gyre for my lowboy frag tank. I’ve been using two MP10s , but I just can’t get the flow right across the tank so opting for a gyre. I’m torn between the orbit 2 and the maxspect jump both 25W. I’ve had nothing but great luck with my Maxspect gyres on my reefer 450 going on for 8 years now. Hoping someone who has both or use both might lend some experience. Thanks everyone

I have never used AI pumps, but I use a maxspect gyre in my frag tank and it has been completely bulletproof. Especially given the price, I'd go with maxspect.

I have used both. The maxspect requires more frequent cleaning or it starts to make noise, mine has also made a noise when going in reverse since it was brand new. i have never had any control issues or failures with it and it seems to be reliable over the last 3 years.

The orbit i have had problems with control from time to time, i have not had this AI product go out on me, however i have had other AI equipment fail, such as return pumps, lights, and nero 3, so i have generally moved away from using them. This is now in my mixing station.

I currently have my maxspect gyre vertical behind rocks and an mp40 as the main source of flow on my 120 G system. If you have the ability to wait and save for a vortech i think you will find it to be way way better than these 2. I find the flow to be more even and stronger. The modes that it offers - like the nutrient transport mode - are super helpful and very nice to customize flow for different reefs.

I’ve owned both. My maxspect days were around 8-9 years ago. Though I really liked the pumps, I hated the controllers. I don’t know how they are controlled these days…

I now own the orbits (anmd Nero’s too) and I absolutely LOVE the fact that they are controlled via Mobius. The flow they produce is excellent as well of course. No complaints with them.

To be honest, that was the main selling point the fact that I could use the Mobius app because I have Eco tech pumps as well and lights. I’m not afraid of spending the money as long as the product is good I personally have never had a failure with any of my AI products I had hydra 26 HD‘s for over five years with no issues.

Failures are possible with any brand. The key is whether there’s good product support , especially when they are under warranty. I haven’t dealt with AI failures either, but considering Aqua Illumination is owned by the same parent company as Ecotech, Bulk Reef Supply, and other major brands and they are produced right along side Vortech pumps, etc, I have no concerns that they would be reasonable with product support if a problem were to arise.
