It's a small nano so my choices are limited. It's an undrilled 36 gallon bowfront. I have a skimmer rated for 75 gallons, which should help and a fluval cannister which I'm running carbon, denitrate and phosban. I'll probably keep the cannister but will be adding a gfo in a couple of weeks to better run the phosban and carbon. My list of fish are all peaceful, my last tank was aggressive. I'm thinking 4 or 5 little ones and I'm trying to stay away from any known jumpers. If you have any experience, any fish not on the list or ideas please be sure to let me know. Here's the list and thanks in advance.

Yellow fin flasher wrasse (this one is definitely going in)
Orange stripe prawn goby
2 purple firefish
2 ocellaris clown fish
midas blenny
royal gramma basslet
red or green mandarin (ora)

Couple comments... I have heard that royal grammas can become pretty territorial and might out compete the mandarin for food. The other comment is about the ORA mandarin, I have been reading up on this as I have a 45g and that fish is very high on my list as well. From what I have read the ORA mandarins are not without their feeding challenges and that many people have experienced losses from starvation. I am not saying take that fish off your list, but I would make sure that you are prepared for it. I highly commend ORA for all the progress and am not trying to slight that program at all. I am just saying that if you go that route it might not be a piece of cake.

What I would do
Yellow assessor bassist (they sometimes swim upside down!)
Helfrichi firefish - jumper
2 black ocellaris or picassos
Yasha goby with pistol shrimp
And the yellow fin flasher

Note- all wrasses , firefish jump
The Midas will jump too

Thanks for the heads up guys. I've seen royal grammas get tough but not too aggressive. I've had a sixline wrasse for over two years with no jumping but I had a clownfish jump on me the second day he was in my tank. I guess sometimes you just get unlucky. Okay, so I''m down to
2 clownfish
flasher wrasse
and a royal gramma. I think that shouldn't be to much of a bio load and it's easy on my budget. I was also considering the yellow accesor bassist but it's considered territorial and sometimes aggressive. And it's also almost a hundred bucks. thanks again.

From what u have read on the yellow assessor is that it is peaceful . Live aquaria also has it at peaceful too. What about a bangaii cardinal ? A tail spit blenny is also cool and they will also eat algae !

You might also consider a mated pair of neon gobies. Easy fish to keep and small so not alot of bioload. I had a single one for a couple years and had alot of personality. Every time I worked in my 55 he hitched a ride and cleaned me.

Yellow corris wrasse are always nice and pretty easy to keep... Makes a great predator for a lot of pests found in the home aquarium...

does this mean you don't have a lid since you're trying to avoid jumpers? the flasher will definitely jump out. I think most fishes has the ability to jump out if something or someone scares them enough. good luck man.

I like your list but i definitely agree with the mandarin comments above. Also i had a six line that jumped a couple of times. One back to the rear chambers and the last was his death after 3 years :(
I have a plexi glass top with very minimal room for jumps so with your list you gotta be ready for it.

Not to sound like a broken record but I personally think your tank may be on the small side to keep a mandarin long term unless you can train it to eat frozen foods.

If you can find someone getting rid of their mandarin you should be all set. Or get a younger one that's easier to train

Take a look at my 36 in this thread, I've got a leopard wrasse, midas blenny, one platinum clown, a zebra dart fish, a pirple firefish and as of tonight, a cardinal. I will try and take some more pics soon.

The leopard wrasse and purple firefish are really cool fish. I have them in my JBJ 45 rimless and really like them.
