So I have this super rare shroom that detached from the plug it came in on. I've had it sitting in a plastic cup on rock rubble for almost a week in my sump with moderate light and low flow and it just will not reattach to anything. Should I just let it be a while longer or try something else? I'm afraid I'll lose this gem. Help!

Make sure you have good water circulation around it. I poke a lot of holes on the side of the cup/container I used....However, mine was just rics, yuma, mushroom, rock nems...not super rare stuff and they work everytime.... I have seen people use mesh to wrap around the shroom on a small live rock and after 2 weeks they take the mesh off.....They normally mount within 1 week if the shroom is healthy....Good luck Mike

I really hope it isn't the mushroom in your signature picture! Granted it probably is...
I have not had much luck getting them to attach while sitting in the cup as some have had. You can wrap a rubber band loosely around the mushroom and the rock to add some force pushing the foot against the rock. You can sew fishing line and basically tie the mushroom onto a rock. Or the above suggested. The idea behind all of the suggestions to to add tension so that the foot has something pushing or pulling it onto the substrate. Also you could just send it to me and I will attach half of it to something and send it back to you :D

I watched at the LFS "gluing" a shroom to a rock seemed to work
Gluing only works if the foot is attached to something for the glue to adhere to. If you chip a mushroom off of a rock with a bit of the rock still attached to the foot you can glue the little bit of the rock to a plug. A free floating mushroom without any solid material will not stay glued.

Sounds good, is there a warranty it will make it under your care? :)

For what it cost...I really doubt there is. They usually detach when they're unhappy with where they are. Was it in too high of light or flow? A week might not be long enough, as long as there's enough light where it's at now I'd say give it some time. I know it cost more than a new arm or leg would be but remember it's a Discosoma spp when it comes to its needs.

Thanks for the suggestions! I might try the rubber band thing. Of course this is the only shroom I've ever had difficulty getting to reattach.

If a warranty is included, I'll send it to @JaimeAdams tomorrow! At least I'd have a stress free few days. :p

This usually doesn't work long term since shrooms can produce an abundance of mucous, it would just slime right off.

More time might be the answer before trying the rubber band. It actually arrived partially detached in the bag. It was really angry being shipped!

+1 on the screen mesh. I bought a kryptonite mushroom not too long ago that was completely detached. I used some left over screen from a diy screen top kit. I put the shroom on a frag disk and wrapped it over with the screen. I made it just tight enough so it wouldnt float off the disk and placed it in a low flow area. After the 1st week it looked attached but I loosen up the screen a little so it could fully expand. 2 weeks later it was fully attached to the disk. I thought it worked pretty well.

Good luck!

I got a mushroom box recently. It's kinda built to have slow flow and is enclosed. So even if the mushroom floats off, it won't be able to go anywhere.

Do you have a picture of this "mushroom box"?

It's got a little lid, the bottom is solid and 3 sides have slits. The 4th side is black and held on to the glass with a magnetic grip. It's made by Zen Reef

I'll try to find the thread from the fb group I found it in. There's a better pic in that.

Mike, you can use this idea and just pretty much do that with mag floats and any plastic jars.....make a lot of holes around, top and bottom. I use the drill :) The magnet allows you to move it anywhere until the shroom finds the sweet spot

you can take a 5 gallon bucket and cover the bottom with rubble, use a airstone to generate a bit of flow, 50watt heater, clamp on lamp...
Just make a mark to keep up with topping it off daily...
I have a 8" deep blue cube I use to do this in, sits on my desk, light from the 40 breeder gives it enough for mushrooms...

I picked up a loose rainbow golden mushroom today along with some other things, so I'm going to be right along with you on trying to get a mushroom to attach.

I second that Pectinia. Nice center piece in that tank

Let me know how you make out. Hopefully one of us will have success! Post a picture when you can.
